| 01/04/09, Staff blog: An Event to Remember! |
Blog Entry From Wang & Li Shanghai Marketing Manager, I.Y.
As the Marketing Manager for Wang & Li, I am responsible for enhancing the company’s image and branding in the market. My responsibilities cover our company website, blog, bimonthly e-newsletters, candidate and client events, and everything in between. Although I’ve helped Larry (our Managing Director) with the organization of many presentations, open-houses, and events during the past nine months that I’ve been with the company; the most memorable one for me would definitely be our Wang & Li End-Of Year Party and First Annual Rocks, Paper, Scissors Competition, held on December 13th.
When Larry first told me that our end-of-year client appreciation event would be a rocks/paper/scissors competition with loud music, free-flow beer, and prizes for everyone in a house party-like atmosphere, instead of a traditional dinner event at a five-star hotel; I have to be honest and say that I thought it was a pretty crazy idea. In fact, I am certain that the majority of my colleagues shared my view as well and that we were really “out in left field” on this one. What kind of adult would get a kick out of rocks, paper, scissors?!? Especially our clients and candidates, who are all very mature, high-caliber professionals!
Despite our initial doubts, we all worked hard on every little detail to put this event together. We booked fun venue with great service and decided on the mix of food/drinks/music. We designed and printed colorful banners, stand-up posters, and new business cards to proudly display our “Recruitment Firm of the Year” award. We also gathered prize donations from many of our clients and pushed hard to market the occasion to them, mainly through the blind faith, promise that this would be “the best time that they have this entire year!”
If you’ve had a chance to check out the pictures on our website, then you’ll be able to clearly see that everything turned out awesome and everyone had a great time! Over 150 people attended to celebrate with us a very successful year, including 20 rocks/paper/scissors teams representing companies such as Schneider, Starbucks, The NBA, etc., all competing for the highly-prized, Wang & Li Cup. We even had entire families from our clients along with their kids participate in the tournament! And equally as important, I believe all of our Wang & Li colleagues enjoyed the party and felt quite proud to be a part of this first annual year-end event of ours for our clients.
Now since this is the first time we’ve done this, of course, many things can still be improved to make it even better. But with the success of this event, we are once again able to show how Wang & Li stands out as a really “different” company with its unique way of doing things. You can be sure that we’re going to make it a bigger and better event next year. So we sincerely hope all of you Wang & Li supporters and friends can come attend our 2009 End-Of-Year Party and 2nd Annual Wang & Li Paper/Rock/Scissors Competition!” Look for it at the end of this year and be ready to compete for our Wang & Li Cup!
