Wang & Li’s U.S. Roadshow A Big Success

by Qi Xin

Perhaps it was because of the extremely tough employment market that the U.S. is experiencing right now.  Maybe it was because of the timeliness of our presentation topic on The Global Financial Crisis’ Impact On China’s Employment Market:  And How To Pursue Opportunities In The Mainland From The U.S.  Or maybe we just picked the right student groups and organizations to cooperate with and co-host our events.  Whatever the reasons, we are extremely happy about how well our late-February, roadshow presentations were received by the many U.S. MBA programs and Asian-American professional organizations that we visited.  From the feedback we received, we are even more intent on finding ways to support the China job search and career interests of bilingual professionals who are currently living abroad.

“The first thing that struck me during the two weeks is the level of interest that we saw among people in the U.S. to explore and pursue career opportunities in China, as well as the number of mainland Chinese MBAs and returnees we met,” says Rita Dong, Wang & Li’s general manager who made the roadshow trip with Wang & Li CEO, Larry Wang.  “There is a great deal of professional talent that we met whose backgrounds respond well to the many needs and challenges of the clients that we work with in China.  At the same time, they lack a lot of basic information and channels to help them with their China job search.”

“Even though the internet has made the world a much smaller place over the last 10 years, people in the U.S. are still in need of more current and credible information to help them pursue opportunities in China,” adds Larry Wang.  “For them, the move to China to develop their career is a huge, important decision and lifestyle change.  As such we really felt the benefit and value that we were able to bring audiences through presentations we delivered and questions we responded to.”

Wang & Li’s U.S. roadshow covered stops in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, with presentation events delivered at top MBA programs like Harvard, MIT, New York University, Columbia, Wharton, University of Chicago, Northwestern, UCLA, UC Irvine, and UC Berkeley, and at popular professional organizations likeNECINA in Boston, New York Taiwanese Finance Association (NYTFA), Taiwanese American Professionals (TAP) in Los Angeles, and HYSTA, CNET and NAAAP in San Francisco.  Topics that Larry And Rita focused on included the global recession’s impact on China’s employment market, what industries and job functions in China are feeling the greatest impact, China’s employment and hiring outlook for the coming year, and what professionals from the U.S. should think about most to effectively pursue opportunities in the mainland.

“From our recent U.S. roadshow, we definitely plan to spend more time building relationships and providing our front-line, China job market insights and support to those in the States,” says Larry Wang.  “In fact, we even hope to re-open a U.S. Wang & Li office in the near future.  That would fit very nicely with our plan of further connecting more bilingual, international-caliber professionals with many of the great career opportunities here in the mainland.”
