Why would a person turn down a position that offers him a 100% salary increase? Who does that??? Actually, that's an extreme situation, but we have seen many candidates over the years make moves for little or no salary increase, or even take a pay cut, in order to join a situation that can significantly better their development and help them attain their future career and financial objectives. With these candidates, they have a very good sense of what will create earning power for themselves and increase their ability to attain attractive opportunities over the course of their career. Rather than pursuing opportunistic, short-lived situations, they identify ones that will allow them to develop broader skill sets, accumulate outstanding achievements, and demonstrate the ability to handle greater responsibilities. As such , they seek out strong platforms that they can be a part of which add value and create upside for their long-term prospects.

Who Is Responsible For Your Career Development And Success ?

I recently delivered a career development workshop for a client that was launching a new, two-year leadership development program for 25 “rising stars” and high potential staff. Those selected for the program had to be nominated and then interviewed by top management from among over 150 applicants. The program was a significant investment and commitment by the company to develop its next generation of management leadership.

During the morning of the kick-off event for the program, the general manager of the China organization came to address the participants with a few remarks. After offering his congratulations for being accepted into the program, his message to them was that they needed to understand clearly that their participation in the program was an excellent opportunity for their career development, but not a guarantee for their success in the company. Come To A Monthly Wang & Li Open-House Mixer!


Guests mixing and chatting together at our most recent Open-house Mixer event held in our Beijing office at Jianwai SOHO .

Since we've settled into our new location at Jianwai SOHO in Beijing, Wang & Li has been holding our monthly Open-house Mixer event as a great way to better know more of the professional talent and client community that we serve. The response so far from many who have attended one of our Mixers is that they enjoy the relaxed and friendly environment to mix and mingle with a variety of other top-caliber professionals with similar bilingual/international-oriented backgrounds. We try to keep each event to less than 50 guests in order that people can approach and talk with each other in an informal, "cocktail party-like" setting, that just happens to be held in our Beijing office.

We like to invite a different mix of interesting profiles and backgrounds for each Open-house event in order to create an atmosphere that is both highly professional and social.
